Mahakala Ekajati Thangka- Fierce Vajrayana Protector

The Tibetan Mahakala, Ekajati thangka was painted in the Nakthang style with natural stone colors and 24k gold. She is standing on a triangle flame mandala adorned with a garland of human skulls. Her golden hair is tied back into a single bun with a turquoise forehead curl. She has one eye, three breasts, two hands, and a single head. With her right hand, she waves a human body that is impaled and upright. In her left hand, she holds the eviscerated, dripping red heart of those who have betrayed their Vajrayana vows.

Note: Ekajati Thangka is an original painting from Enlightenment Studio located at Boudha Stupa.

In Vajrayana Buddhist mythology, Ekajati is one of the most strong and fearsome protectors. According to Tibetan tradition, the tantric master Padmasambhava pierced her right eye to help him subdue Tibetan demons more effectively. "Blue Tara," "Vajra Tara," and "Ugra Tara" are all names for Ekajati. Along with Rahula, she is often regarded as one of the Nyingma school's three main protectors. In the Green Tara mandala, she usually appears as a liberator. Her ascribed abilities also include reducing adversaries' fear, sharing joy, and eliminating personal obstacles on the path to enlightenment.
