Jambala, Dzambhala Thangka Painting, Traditional Tibetan Buddhist Art

Arya Jambala is one of the many Gods of Wealth. He is also said to be a manifestation of Avalokitesvara Singe Dra working for the benefit of all sentient beings and is considered to be a protective deity of Buddha Shakyamuni, Vajrapani, and Guru Padmasambhava. Zambala is a protective deity associated with wealth and prosperity, Jambhala is the protector of all lineages and of all sentient beings from all sickness and difficulties.

Once, many eons ago, Jambala took birth in the world known as Hoetzer Jyapa, meaning a hundred light rays. This was a land of great wealth where famines, natural calamities, and wars were unheard of. Here too, in this most fortunate world, the Buddha Nime Shel propagated the teachings of Mahayoga. During this prosperous life, Jambala prayed fervently, with the noble motivation to help the poor and unfortunate, that he would be reborn as a god of wealth. After this noble life and according to his wishes, he was reborn as a prince in a kingdom north of Mt. Meru ruled by Vaisravana, one of the chief gods of wealth. Thereafter he is said to continue fulfilling his vow to help all sentient beings with his generosity through all times. In certain texts, it is mentioned that Jambala endows his devotees with both material and spiritual wealth, the former actually helping to create the right conditions for acquiring the latter.

If you are practising Jambala, this Tibetan thangka will be helpful to inspire in your meditation practice.
