Guru Rinpoche Rainbow Body Thangka Print, Padmasambhava
Guru Rinpoche in rainbow body seated on a lotus that has risen in a lake, wearing thick, elegant pastel robes and a cap with eagle feathers to symbolize his spiritual flight. In his right hand, he holds a vajra, while his left shoulder is gripped with khatvanga. In Vajrayana Buddhism, the Khatvanga is a club that has evolved into a magical staff used in ceremonies to symbolize the ultimate level of enlightenment and perfection. The underlying wrathfulness that comes to the surface when exorcising and overcoming demonic spirits is indicated by wrinkles of a scowl on his brow. Padmasambhava was the next in line to evict the Bön faith.
