Rare High Quality Japanese thangka- The bodhisattva with Horse Head: Bato kannon is the wrathful Incarnation of the Mahasattva Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara of great compassion in Tantric Buddhism and is considered in japan protector of Animals. The “Horse-Headed Kannon” is the only manifestation of Kannon that shows rage that is why Bato Kannon is also one of the Myoo, Acala, Wisdom kings, warlike, wrathful deities of Esoteric Buddhism; in this role, the deity is known as Bato Myo-o. His Sanskrit name, hayagriiva (transcription: 何耶掲梨婆), means "horse head". The Bodhisattva of Compassion, who can appear in six different incarnations, one for each of the six realms of existence (rokudō) appears here in the form of the horse-headed Avalokiteśvara, one of the six Avalokiteśvaras (Roku Kannon : six deities of mercy) meant to save sentient beings of the six worlds: divine, heavenly beings (devas), demigods, Titans (asura), human beings, animals, starving spirits, the damned. It is said that this Kannon saves not only horses but also all chikusho (beasts), and that it guides and benefits the chikushodo (the animal kingdom) among the Roku Kannon (the six Kannons).Bato Kannon, which is more particularly dedicated to the animal world, is usually depicted capped by the horse head and Flame-haired. ------------------------------------------------------------------Size: 8"/ 20 cm (width) x 16"/ 40 cm (height)Materials: Cotton Canvas, Acrylic Colors, Genuine 24K Gold------------------------------------------------------------------ THIS THANGKA IS HAND-PAINTED IN THE TRADITIONAL STYLE AND THE QUALITY IS HIGH
