Mater Artists of Enlightenment Studio
Bibek Shrestha is a distinguished artist specializing in the traditional art of Thangka painting. Enlightenment Studio takes a great pride to introduce him as our master artist, for the past 28 years. His peculiar works of art have gained much deserved appreciation from the Buddhist practitioners, all around the globe. As an experienced Thangka painter, his thangka reflects the unique style of depicting deities within a mystical composition and wonderful array of complementary colors.
Background:
Bibek received formal training in Thangka art from a renowned Karma Gadri Master of our times, Jamyang Phunstok from Tibet. Under his master’s guidance, Bibek learnt the intricate techniques and the artistic rhythm required to paint this sacred art form. His education includes both traditional apprenticeship and his keen interest in fine arts, which helped him blend classical techniques with a contemporary touch.
Style and Influences:
His works are uniquely distinguished and exemplify a perfect blend of artistic fusion. Much of his art is deeply influenced by his master, Phunstok, especially in the creation of minimalist composition and the creative color combinations. Another hallmark of his style can be seen as the finest layer of shading on his thangka. The wonderfully created sky perfectly complements the iconic aura of deities.
His paintings are not just artistic creations but also profound reflections of Dharma practice, rich in detail and narrative.
Collections and Galleries:
His works are still on display on many monasteries of Nepal and India, where they are used as the meditation guides for everyday practice.
