Intrdoduction To Bhavachakra :
The Wheel of Life or “Bhavacakra” is well known by Buddhist monks as a powerful meditation tool and also by students to learn and understand the teachings of the Buddha. The Wheel represents the very reasons of suffering and it can be seen painted on the walls of many Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in all Himalayan regions.
According to historical records, the Buddha himself gave specific directions for how the work should be carried out when the first model of the Wheel of life was painted above the Veluvana Bihara at Rajagriha's entrance. The actions of Maudgalyayana, one of the Buddha's most important pupils, served as inspiration. By using his psychic abilities, Maudgalyayana was able to visit all living things in all realms of existence and see them in various states of joy or agony. As a consequence, he learned the reasons for these various moods.
The Wheel of life thangka is one of the popular and complicated subjects of Buddhism.

How does pollution harm the thangka?
Thangka do not have a varnish or surface treatment like western paintings do to protect them. It is impossible to clean a thangka whose surface has gotten damaged or discolored by smoke or oil. It is crucial to make an effort to keep the delicate surface from being harmed.
