Chenresig Thangka
Introduction To The Thangka :
As the embodiment of all Buddhas' compassion, Chenrezig is the most revered Bodhisattva. He also goes by the name Avalokitesvara, which means "One Who Looks With Unwavering Eye." All sentient beings' cries are heard by him during times of strife and trouble. He makes a religious gesture with his hands, clasping them in front of his jewel-encrusted heart. He has a crystal akshamala, or rosary, on his upper right hand that represents the endless cycle. He is clutching a white lotus in his left hand, signifying that he liberates conscious beings from hell and the mucky streams of suffering in order to bring them to higher states of enlightenment. He is seated on a row of lotus petals while covered in silk, his legs in the "diamond pose" for meditation.
