Introduction to Mandala Painting
Mantras fall under the Buddhist category of dharani. A group of syllables are recited in order to help both the speaker and all other sentient beings. Mantra means "mind" and "tra" means "to guard" or "to shield the mind." Buddhists use mantras, which are spoken formulations, to guard against distraction and unwholesomeness.
