This Red Chenrezig thangka is painted in traditional karma gadri style by our artist. Red Chenrezig, also known as Gyalwa Gyatso, is a Tibetan Buddhist deity who is revered as a Highest Yoga Tantra Yidam in the Kagyu Traditions. Chenrezig is shown in this thangka as a coral-red with one face and four arms, sitting in vajra-posture on a white moon disc and a multicolored lotus.

Red Chenrezig (Gyalwa Gyamtso, Jinasagara) is an annuttara yoga yidam who is usually represented with a spouse and in either five-deity or nine-deity forms. The practice is of the father tantra tradition, with a focus on the upaya of compassion, which transforms aggressiveness totally. It includes an extensive body mandala and a completion stage, and it's usually only done as part of a three-year or longer retreat. The ritual has outer, inner, secret, and very secret parts, as well as a drubchen and fire puja, similar to Chakrasamvara.
