Semi-Wrathful Guru Rinpoche, 24K Gold Detailing & Natural Stone Pigments
Semi-Wrathful Guru Padmasambhava's powerful energy and protective strength are embodied in this minimalist thangka of the "Lotus-Born" master, who is renowned for his transformative teachings and capacity to remove barriers on the spiritual path. In the traditional Karma Gadri style, this piece is hand-painted using natural Lhasa stone colors on cotton canvas and embellished with real 24K gold. By emphasizing simplicity, the minimalist design lets Guru Padmasambhava's powerful presence shine through the canvas.
Padmasambhava's portrayal captures his compassionate and semi-wrathful nature, symbolizing his power to overcome obstacles and protect his devotees from negative energies. He represents the harmony of wisdom and power while sitting with a skull cup in one hand, symbolizing mastery over worldly illusions, and a vajra (diamond scepter) in the other, signifying unbreakable strength. At his side is his recognizable katvanga, a staff with symbolic elements that symbolizes his mastery of both the worldly and transcendental realms as well as his connection to esoteric wisdom. His dedication to leading practitioners on the road to enlightenment and his spiritual heritage are symbolized by his powerful staff. His lotus hat and position on a lotus seat also highlight his enlightenment and purity.
Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche or the "Precious Guru," is a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism and is often referred to as the "Second Buddha." He is credited with introducing Buddhism to Tibet in the eighth century and is widely regarded as the founder of the Nyingma school, the oldest of Tibetan Buddhism's four major schools. His teachings combine Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, emphasizing wisdom, compassion, and transformative practices as paths to enlightenment.
