Sacred Nagarjuna Artwork
A representation of classic Tibetan art, this Nagarjuna Thangka is created on cotton canvas with acrylic colors, framed in traditional blue and red silk brocade with motif patterns. One of Buddhism's most renowned philosophers, Nagarjuna is regarded as the founder of the Madhyamaka (Middle Way) school of thought, which provides deep understanding of ultimate truth and emptiness.
Nagarjuna is depicted seated on a lotus seat, exuding wisdom and serenity. His hands are elegantly positioned in the Dharmachakra Mudra, symbolizing the turning of the wheel of Dharma and his vital role in explaining Buddhist philosophy. Above his head, serpents form a protective canopy, signifying his mastery of deep spiritual insight and his connection to the Nagaraja, the serpent king. He is surrounded by a bright halo, and his flowing robes are intricately detailed. The subtle motifs of the traditional silk brocade highlight the skill and devotion that went into creating this sacred art.
