The god's ferocious appearance represents his capacity to vanquish ignorance and surmount challenges on the spiritual path. Hevajra is often shown holding a yab-yum pose with his consort, Nairatmya, signifying the unbreakable bond between emptiness and wisdom. Hevajra is revered by devotees for helping them achieve spiritual enlightenment and liberation; in rituals honoring him, mantras and visualizations are recited in order to call upon his transforming energies.
