Radiant White Shyama Tara: Hand-Painted Masterpiece in Lhasa Stone Colors
In Tibetan Buddhism, White Shyama Tara is regarded as a goddess of longevity, tranquility, and health, and she is well-known for her soft, guardian aura. Hand-painted on cotton canvas, this Tara piece captures a grounded, harmonious palette that exudes tranquility through the use of natural Lhasa stone colors. While genuine 24K gold accents add a divine, luminous touch, emphasizing the goddess's delicate features and symbolic adornments, the traditional Karma Gadri style adds authenticity and elegance.
White Tara is depicted with a radiant white body seated in the Vajra posture, symbolizing her unwavering nature and commitment to her vows. She wears a five-jewelled crown, with each jewel representing mastery of one of the five skandhas, or obstacles to enlightenment. Her face, hands, and feet each have an eye, for a total of seven. These eyes see the suffering of sentient beings from every angle, emphasizing her role as a compassionate observer and protector.
In her left hand, She delicately holds a Pundarika (lotus) between her thumb and ring finger, symbolizing purity and spiritual liberation. Her right hand, in a gesture of supreme generosity, extends toward her audience, blessing and protecting.
White Tara, also known as the "Mother of Liberation," is revered for her compassion and prompt intervention in human affairs, particularly those concerning health and longevity. Her practice is frequently used to alleviate physical, mental, and emotional suffering. This gilt sculpture of White Tara beautifully captures her essence, providing not only access to her protective and healing energies but also a constant reminder of the virtues of compassion and mindfulness in everyday life.
