Majestic Thangka of the Buddhist Goddess of Compassion, Green Tara | With Amitabha Buddha and Nagakanya | LHASA Hues
The Buddhist Goddess of Compassion, Green Tara, comes to life in this stunning hand-painted thangka. A sacred symbol of swift protection and enlightened feminine energy, she's depicted with precision and reverence in traditional Karma Gadri style. Rendered on fine cotton canvas with natural Lhasa stone pigments and genuine 24K gold, this artwork showcases the masterful workmanship of Karma Gadri artistry. Green Tara sits in dynamic grace, her right leg extended to aid those in need, symbolizing her boundless compassion and care. Her vibrant green color, derived from crushed malachite, represents the air element's active compassion—effortless, omnipresent, and fearless. With her right hand in the mudrā of generosity and her left hand holding the stem of an open utpala lotus, she exudes serenity and resolve.
Above her, the red Buddha Amitābha, the spiritual source of her enlightened activity—sits on a lotus cloud, anchoring her in the celestial lineage of compassion. Below, a naga-kanya, the serpent princess of the elemental realms, emerges from stylized waves to present a jeweled offering, symbolizing nature's reverence and Tara’s power to purify toxins and dispel obstacles. Soft lotus blooms and lush foliage surround her, painted in delicate layers of mineral pigment. The tranquil background and spacious composition echo the ethereal beauty of the Karma Gadri school. Every line, shade, and golden flourish is a meditation in itself—an offering of devotion and artistry that transforms this thangka into more than an image: it's a radiant gateway to presence, protection, and awakening.
