Avalokiteshvara, known as Chenrezig in Tibetan visualized as ‘The Buddha of Great Compassion. Chenrezig is ‘the one who hears the cries of the world’ and is the ultimate protector of Tibet. In this four-armed statue, Chenrezig is depicted in a full lotus posture. The four arms represent the four immeasurable qualities of a Bodhisattva: Compassion, Love, Joy, and Equanimity. He refused to enter a joyful state of nirvana until he liberates all conscious beings and frees them from suffering, as he vowed a long time ago.
