Black and Gold thangkas have quite an interesting origin story. It is believed that the remains of a holy lama were applied to a canvas, and later, a deity was drawn upon it with gold. There is also a strong faith that using gold in thangkas helps accumulate merits. As a guardian(Dharmapala), Mahakala guards the teachings of the Dharma, particularly in relation to the Hevajra Tantra, the Vajra Panjara tantra, and the Paramasuka Chakrasamvara tantra. He typically serves advanced Buddhist practitioners, often known as tantric practitioners or adepts, in their quest for enlightenment. This Mahakala thangka will be an ideal gift for practitioners!
