Introduction To Tibetan Calendar :

The central image is of a yellow tortoise - emanation of the Bodhisattva Manjushri. It's lying on the back with the head to the top and the four limbs extended holding sticks with frogs.

In the center of the round flat belly is a circle of nine variously colored squares containing the 9 magic numbers . Surrounding, on a black wheel against an orange background are the 8 trigrams of Chinese origin. The outer circle contains the 12 animal figures namely: Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Bird, Dog, Pig, Mouse, Bull, Tiger which represent the 60 Year Cycle .

The symbols of the planets at both sides of the special numbers are used to represent the days of the week . The sun, moon, eye, hand, arrow, kilaya, sheaf and the head of a bird represents Rahu or Obstacles.
