Description
Tibetan Thangka of Vajradhara Buddha, Sambhogakaya Form
Vajradhara Buddha Thangka, a serene environment with trees and water flowing from mountains. He is dark blue, representing the essence of the historical Buddha's accomplishment of enlightenment and expressing the quintessence of Buddhahood itself. He is on a moon disk and lotus, seated cross-legged in a vajraparyaka stance, two-armed, hands crossed over his heart in the gesture of the vajrahumkara or unification. His left, female hand is inside, bearing the bell; his right, male hand, holding the vajra, is above the left, illustrating method and compassion directed outwards.

Vajradhara was the Fourth Historic Buddha of this fortunate eon, according to Buddhist cosmology. The dharmakaya, or body of truth, is Prince Siddhartha's achievement of enlightenment, the realization or wisdom of culture itself. The sambhogakaya, or body of enjoyment, is what he calls his realization when he communicates it through subtle symbols. The nirmanakaya, or body of manifestation, happens when such realization manifests in a more accessible or tangible form for all sentient beings, as it did for the historical Shakyamuni Buddha.
