8 Medicine Buddhas Thangka Painting, Bhaisajyaguru
The Eight Medicine Buddhas Thangka is a stunning and spiritually enlightening work of art that brings deep meaning and beauty to any space. Meticulously hand-painted on high-quality cotton canvas, it features vivid natural stone hues and is adorned with real 24K gold. This thangka, which was painted in the traditional Karma Gadri style, depicts the eight Medicine Buddhas' combined grace and healing ability. Although each of them has distinct qualities, they are all united in their mission to promote spiritual well-being, health, and healing.
The main figure of the thangka is Bhaisajyaguru (Medicine Buddha), also called Vaiduryaprabharaja. He is portrayed in a brilliant sapphire blue, with the stem of a myrobalan plant; a Tibetan medicinal symbol for healing, simply held in his right hand. In dhyana-mudra, his left hand is in his lap, holding an alms bowl full of fruits and nectar, symbolizing his function as a body and spirit healer. The Noble Eightfold Path is represented by the golden eight-spoke wheels on his palms and soles. Surrounding Bhaisajyaguru are his 'Six Brothers' and Shakyamuni Buddha.
The Eight Medicine Buddhas are a profound grouping within Tibetan Buddhism, revered for its powerful intercession in health and healing. Each Buddha has vowed to assist sentient beings in overcoming specific ailments and obstacles, encompassing a wide range of physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges. They are particularly revered for their ability to cure illnesses, extend life, and improve one's health and spiritual practice. The presence of Shakyamuni Buddha emphasizes the authenticity of the teachings, as he is thought to have taken on the form of Bhaisajyaguru to reveal the Tibetan Medical Tantra.
