The Female Buddha, Green Tara | Compact Meditation Artwork
The Female Buddha, Green Tara, is a stunning portrayal of the Buddhist Tara, revered for her swift assistance to those in need. Known as the "Mother of Liberation," Green Tara is depicted sitting in a royal comfort posture, with her right leg extended in front of her, symbolizing her readiness to enter the world and aid sentient beings. Her left leg remains folded, indicating wisdom and deep meditation. This artwork, created on cotton canvas with natural stone colors, embodies the essence of the traditional Karma Gadri style. The pure 24K gold application enhances the deity's brilliance, reflecting her spiritual power.
The five jewels in her crown symbolize her enlightened state and connection to the Five Dhyani Buddhas. Her left hand, in the abhaya mudra, holds a fully bloomed blue utpala (lotus flower), representing purity, compassion, and her ability to guide beings through suffering, while her right hand is in the varada mudra, showing her readiness to help those in need. The soothing green color of her skin represents healing energy, rebirth, and active compassion. The background of this thangka features a peaceful landscape with soft clouds and rolling hills, suggesting Tara's calm presence in both the heavens and the earth. The distant mountains and gentle sky gradient enhance the sense of heavenly peace and boundless kindness.
Traditional offerings, including priceless jewels, sacred symbols, and ceremonial items, are placed at the bottom to symbolize dedication and the accumulation of spiritual merit. Her pure and awakened nature is represented by the lotus seat she sits on, encircled by beautiful blossoms. This thangka is more than just a visual depiction of Green Tara; it is also a sacred meditation aid that enables practitioners to invoke her protective and nurturing energy, overcome challenges, and cultivate courage and wisdom on their spiritual journey.
