Black and Gold thangkas have quite an interesting origin story. It is believed that the remains of a holy lama were applied to a canvas and later a deity was drawn upon it in with gold. There is also a strong faith that using gold in thangkas help accumulate merits. As a guardian(Dharmapala), Mahakala guards the teachings, the Dharma, particularly in relation to the Hevajra Tantra, the Vajra Panjara tantra, and the Paramasuka Chakrasamvara tantra. He typically serves advanced Buddhist practitioners, often known as tantric practitioners or adept, in their quest for enlightenment. This Mahakala thangka will be an ideal gift for practitioners!
