The Kalachakra mandala is the "Palace of Purity," including over 700 deities symbolized by various signs and symbols. The palace's entrances closest to the center are known as cittacakra (mind-wheels), while the entrances in the middle are known as vakcakra (voice-wheels). Figures of various animals, including a corpse and a marigold-like lotus flower, may be found outside the gates of Vakcakra. They include a deer, a buffalo, a ram peacock, an elephant, a mongoose, a bull, a makara, a mouse, and the Garuda.
