His face is adorned with fangs and a fierce expression, symbolizing compassion. His three eyes reflect omniscience, and the five-skull crown represents the transformation of the five poisons into wisdom. His body is decorated with silk scarves and serpents, symbolizing transcendence over worldly illusions.
He is depicted with four arms with symbolic objects: a vajra, symbolizing the power to cut through ignorance, and a vajra lasso to bind negativity. The central hands perform the Humkara Mudra, a wrathful gesture of subduing demons and clearing obstacles from the path to enlightenment. Vajrapani Butadamara stands atop a subdued deity, symbolizing triumph over ego and destructive forces. He is seated on a sun disc and a blooming lotus, symbolizing his enlightened nature and ability to guide sentient beings.
