Hand-painted Wheel of Life Thangka with Chenrezig and Amoghasiddhi | Traditional Art
The Wheel of Life Thangka with Chenrezig and Amoghasiddhi is hand-painted with acrylic colors on premium cotton canvas and accented with 24K gold. This thangka, created by talented Nepali artisans, is an amazing piece of traditional Tibetan art that blends spiritual profundity and rich symbolism.
The Wheel of Life (Bhavacakra) is a key symbol in Buddhism representing the cycle of samsara—birth, life, death, and rebirth. At the center, ignorance is depicted as the root cause of suffering (dukkha), surrounded by three animals: a pig (ignorance), a snake (hatred), and a bird (attachment). These "three poisons" drive the cycle, leading to negative karma and suffering. The wheel includes six realms of existence based on karma: the hell realm (suffering), the hungry ghost realm (desire), the animal realm (ignorance), the human realm (possibility of liberation), the asura realm (jealousy), and the god realm (pleasure yet trapped in ignorance). The outer wheel shows how actions shape rebirth, while a moon at the top symbolizes liberation (nirvana). Held by Yama, the Lord of Death, the Wheel of Life reminds us that liberation from suffering is achievable through right understanding, ethical conduct, and meditation, allowing one to overcome the three poisons and escape samsara. In thangkas featuring Chenrezig and Amoghasiddhi, these figures are depicted with a focus on their compassionate and powerful qualities.
