    Avalokiteshvara Thangka- Bodhisattva Art

Avalokiteshvara is a Buddhist Bodhisattva who encompasses all Buddha's compassion, and our artist has painted this thangka in a variation of acrylic colors and 24K gold. The magnificent gold-surrounded blue nimbus engulfs him is accompanied by a yellowish-orange halo that brightens the face. The river flowing beneath the white clouds falling from the majestic mountains adds to the scene's fantastic ambiance.

Avalokitesvara, or "One Who Looks With Unwavering Eye," is the most revered Bodhisattvas, representing all Buddhas' compassion. He listens to the cries of all sentient beings in times of strife and difficulty. His two front hands are clasped in front of his jewel-draped heart in a pious gesture. On his upper right hand, he wears a crystal akshamala, or rosary, symbolizing the never-ending cycle. His left hand holds a white lotus, implying that he liberates conscious people from the muddy streams of pain and hellish realms, bringing them to the new stages of enlightenment. He is dressed in silk and seated on a row of lotus petals, both legs in meditation's "diamond stance."
