Buddha Shakyamuni with 16 Arhat, Tibetan Painting
Original Size of Thangka ( 20 x 30 inches )
Sakyamuni Buddha descended to the world to show the right path to the fortunate beings, so that they may attain freedom from the cycle of existence. He practised all kinds of Bodhisattva's activities to attain perfect enlightenment. He delivered religious sermons for the benefit of all sentient beings travelling from one place to another till the end of his life.
The Prajñāpāramitā is the central teaching of Lord Buddha which contains two major beliefs- prajñā (wisdom) and upāya (method). In this Sūtra, he explains implicitly the different stages of the path to lead to Buddhahood which is the final goal of the sentient beings. It means one must practice the wisdom and method together to attain enlightenment.
The style in this thangka painting is Karma Gadri, painted in natural stone colours. Buddha, in his peaceful state, is surrounded by the sixteen arhats, his immortal disciples, each with their followers. The original size of the painting is 20 inches x 30 inches, so it was tough in a way to clearly bring out the details.
