6-Armed Dharmapala Mahakala
The 6-armed Dharmapala-Mahakala is seen in his most ferocious and strong form, emanating overwhelming might and unwavering defence. Wearing a ferocious garland of severed heads and adorned with coiling serpents, he represents the total annihilation of negativity and spiritual roadblocks. The purification of the five poisons—lust, hatred, ignorance, pride, and jealousy—into the awakened wisdom of the Five Buddhas is symbolised by his crown of five skulls.
Mahakala's six arms wield potent ritual tools that convey his unwavering compassion in this holy thangka. He cuts through attachment, delusion, and ego with the kartika sword in his right hand. He is holding a blood-filled kapala skull cup in his left hand, which represents the subduing and purifying of negative energies. He is a zealous defender of dharma, as evidenced by the symbolic things in each of his other hands that are specific to this form. This thangka captures his intense energy and protective presence, making it a meaningful piece for meditation, spiritual practice, and sacred spaces.
