The central Buddha Mandala depicts Buddha at its center, surrounded by celestial beings representing divine forces. Makara, mythical creatures that protect the sacred space, are guarding the four cardinal directions. Encircling the center are successive layers of spiritual elements: the Lotus Circle, representing purity; the Circle of Vajras (Diamonds), symbolizing the unbreakable truth of enlightenment; and the Outer Circle (Ring of Fire), which burns away ignorance and illusion. Four more mandalas surround the primary mandala, depicting the Five Buddhas and their awakened wisdom, each framed with gold adornment.
Aside from the mandala, the thangka masterfully blends Buddhist storytelling and protection elements. On the sides, Buddha's life tale is told in detailed settings, from birth to enlightenment. The compassionate figure of Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, presides over the mandala, bestowing blessings and providing wisdom. At the bottom, the Dharma Protectors act as guardians of the precious teachings, steadfast in their determination to preserve enlightenment. These parts are framed by complex Makara motifs, which bind the entire design together with strength and grace.
Every stroke of this Thangka exudes expertise and devotion, with intricate patterns and brilliant embellishments highlighted by pure gold accents. The outermost circle, accented by detailed golden flames, exudes visual and spiritual splendor, capturing the transformative journey to enlightenment.
