Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara, is revered as the embodiment of compassion in Tibetan Buddhism. Chenrezig is known for his ability to listen to the suffering of the world, offering his boundless mercy to those in need. His four arms signify his infinite capacity to extend help, each hand performing a function to benefit sentient beings. Above him, the presence of Amitabha Buddha, his spiritual father, symbolizes the source of boundless compassion and wisdom that guides Chenrezig in his mission. Alongside him, Vajrapani, the protector of the Buddha's teachings, embodies strength and power, assisting Chenrezig in overcoming obstacles. Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of wisdom, further complements this trio by offering insight and clarity, helping to cut through ignorance.
Chenrezig, who embodies heavenly mercy, is shown with a calm look. Seated in the lotus pose, he represents spiritual purity. His upper hands are in the anjali mudra, a devotional gesture that represents intense dedication and empathy for all living things. He has a crystal mala in his lower right hand, which stands for knowledge and direction for sentient beings. His lower left hand holds a lotus flower, which represents spiritual purity and the blossoming of enlightenment. His vibrant attire and jewellery depict his heavenly essence, and the radiant aura surrounding his head represents his enlightened state. The presence of Amitabha Buddha, Vajrapani, and Manjushri highlights his role in leading others to enlightenment, and the calm look reveals his boundless compassion.
