Description
Healing Blessings of the Eight Medicine Buddhas | A Large-Scale Tibetan Buddhist Artwork
This Eight Medicine Buddhas thangka is a large and intricate work of sacred art, hand-painted by our skilled team of artists in the Kathmandu Valley. It is created using traditional Tibetan techniques on premium cotton canvas, which has been carefully prepared with pure substances to ensure a smooth and durable foundation.
Each Buddha's presence and individuality are enhanced through the use of rich acrylic colors, which emphasize their depth and purity. Genuine 24K gold is delicately applied to the robes, halos, thrones, and background motifs, adding brilliance and highlighting the thangka’s sacred symbolism. As light shifts across its surface, the gold creates a radiant effect that reflects the divine energy embodied in this exceptional piece.
The central figure of the thangka is Bhaisajyaguru, also known as the Medicine Buddha. He is depicted in a deep lapis-blue hue that represents spiritual clarity, healing power, and the depth of compassion. He is seated in vajra posture on a multicolored lotus throne resting on a moon disc. In his left hand, he holds a bowl of healing nectar filled with myrobalan fruit, a potent herbal medicine in both Ayurveda and Tibetan medicine. His right hand rests on his knee in the gesture of granting medicine, holding a stem of the healing plant. His expression is calm and focused, reflecting his vow to cure the suffering of body and mind.
Surrounding him are the seven other Medicine Buddhas, each seated in meditation, painted with individual color tones and hand gestures. These Buddhas represent different aspects of healing and vows to eliminate the underlying causes of disease and misfortune. Each figure is seated on an elaborately detailed lotus throne surrounded by flowing silk scarves, vibrant auras, and floral backdrops. Their presence turns the thangka into a comprehensive visual mandala of healing, which makes it particularly potent for spiritual practices that emphasize longevity, health, and purification.
