Description
Hand painted Thangka of Eight Shakyamuni Buddha
This Eight Shakyamuni Buddha Thangka was painted in the Nakthang style by our artist. The thangka is entirely painted in gold and acrylic colors. Each Buddha sits atop a moon disc lotus seat, forming a circle around the central Buddha, who sits on a moon disc lotus throne. On either side of the throne, his two disciples, Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, are standing. All eight Buddhas have a calm and serene expression, with their left hand holding the begging bowl and their right hand in the Earth Touching Mudra.

Shakyamuni Buddha is the historical Buddha, the originator of Buddhist philosophy, and is commonly referred to as "the Buddha." In the Buddhist religion, each "Kalpa" (a Buddhist eon) is considered to have its own Buddha, whose teachings gradually fade until the next Buddha arrives. He is believed to have lived around 420 BC and spent most of his time preaching the teachings of Dharma. The Life of Buddha Thangka depicts his life in detail. He is regarded as a role model, mentor, and inspiration. The "dharma," or spiritual belief, and the "sanga," or Buddhist community, are said to secure his presence on Earth.
