Guru Dragpo, Wrathful Guru Padmasambhava Manifestation,

In this thangka, Guru Dragpo is a wrathful meditational form of Padmasambhava that originated in the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism's 'Revealed Treasure' Tradition. Guru Dragpo's role is that of an ishtadevata, despite the fact that it is technically a guruyoga practice (meditational deity).

The flayed skin of an elephant is draped over his shoulders and a tiger's skin is wrapped around his waist. He wears a garland of chopped heads and a crown decorated with skulls. Guru Dragpo was a powerful protector god of Tibetan Buddhism's Nyingma School in this wrathful meditational form.
