Hand-painted Himalayan Thangka of Green Tara | Shyama Tara
The Himalayan Thangka of Green Tara, painted on a cotton canvas meticulously prepared with natural stone pigments and embellished with 24K gold, is in the Karma Gadri style, renowned for its expansive views and elegant composition. Delicate gold detailing imparts a radiant, spiritual glow to her crown, decorations, and halo, while the mineral-based hues deliver long-lasting brilliance. In Tibetan Buddhism, this thangka holds profound devotional and meditative significance as a depiction of Green Tara, the embodiment of active compassion.
Green Tara is regarded as a swift savior who answers the pleas of creatures who are afraid, in danger, or facing difficulties. Known as the "Mother of Liberation," she is said to have been created from the benevolent tears of Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig) and promised to remain in female form to save all sentient beings. She guards against the Eight Great Fears, which stand for both internal and external freedom. These include fears of fire, water, and wild creatures, as well as internal maladies such as pride and ignorance. Her green hue symbolizes life, enlightened activity, and the movement of compassionate energy. Green Tara in this thangka is seated on a moon disk and lotus in her royal ease posture, symbolizing wisdom and purity. Her left hand makes the protection gesture (abhaya mudra), holding a blue utpala lotus, symbolizing purity amidst samsara. Her right hand extends in the granting gesture (varada mudra). She is adorned with celestial jewelry, a crown with five jewels, and flowing silk scarves. The Himalayan background enhances the sense of openness and peace in the Karma Gadri tradition. Ideal for sacred collections, home altars, or meditation spaces. Invite Green Tara's gentle presence into your practice now.
