The Enlightenment of Historical Gautama Buddha | Vairocana, Amogasiddhi, and Two Foremost Disciples
The historical Gautama Buddha, also known as Shakyamuni, is seated on a lotus throne. Hand-painted by a skilled Nepali artist, it features vibrant acrylic colors and 24K gold detailing to accent sacred elements. The dark blue and green background is filled with blooming lotuses, celestial patterns, and auspicious symbols, enhancing the composition's serenity. This thangka is created in the traditional style, reflecting artistic precision and spiritual devotion, making it a work of art and a sacred object of reverence.
The thangka depicts Shakyamuni Buddha, who achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree over 2,500 years ago and initiated the Dharma wheel. He is represented with a serene expression and earth-touching gesture, symbolizing his moment of enlightenment. Surrounding him are key enlightened beings and disciples. At the top left and right corners, seated on luminous clouds, are Vairocana Buddha and Amoghasiddhi Buddha, representing the all-encompassing wisdom of dharmakaya and the fearless accomplishment of enlightened action, respectively.
Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, his disciples, are depicted as elder monks, each holding alms bowls and staffs that symbolize their deep devotion and profound realization. Celestial beings offer treasures and prayers below the throne, reflecting the homage of both human and divine realms. This arrangement signifies the presence of the Three Jewels: Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. It celebrates the Buddha's awakening as a source of wisdom for all sentient beings.
