About Thangka

Our thangka is a handpainted Tibetan art done using traditional methods. It is a unique piece created using genuine 24K gold and natural stone colors.

Introduction to Mahakala

A thangka is a Tibetan painting that is traditionally used as a support for one’s meditation practice. The imagery depicted in Tibetan paintings provides a guide for the elaborate visualizations that one does in Tibetan Buddhist practice. In Tibetan homes and monasteries, thangkas are considered sacred objects and are often placed above shrines.

Mahākāla is a fierce manifestation of Shiva in Hinduism and Tantric Buddhism. In this artwork, the powerful god is shown in a form of an enraged red visage with a wise third eye and a traditional art, that represents five wisdoms. There is a metal hoop in the back that lets the mask hang from a wall hook.
