Horizontal Monochrome Painting of Manjushri with White Tara and Green Tara | Tibetan Trio Bodhisattva Thangka
Graceful and serene, this Manjushri with White Tara and Green Tara thangka is a rare black and white Newari-style horizontal masterpiece. Hand-painted by a skilled Nepali artist, it is made on fine cotton canvas using traditional techniques, with carefully blended acrylic colors to create deep monochrome tones and subtle gradients. The artist works layer by layer—first outlining each sacred form with precise linework, then building delicate shading to add depth and life to each figure. Every brushstroke demonstrates mastery and devotion, resulting in a high-quality thangka that preserves centuries-old Himalayan artistry.
Manjushri is depicted as the Bodhisattva of wisdom, wielding a flaming sword to pierce ignorance and holding a lotus with the Prajnaparamita Sutra, symbolizing supreme wisdom. His calm presence radiates clarity. To his right is White Tara, the goddess of compassion and healing, with seven eyes recognizing suffering, holding a blooming lotus and shimmering garments. On his left is Green Tara, the swift protectress, extending her hand for boons and holding a lotus for liberation from fear. All three sit on lotus thrones, with luminous halos, amid detailed backgrounds of clouds, dragons, and flora, in black and white.
The presence of these three deities together symbolizes the union of wisdom, compassion, and swift action—the vital qualities needed for enlightenment and the protection of all beings. Manjushri’s wisdom lights the way, White Tara’s compassion cares for and heals, and Green Tara’s speed clears obstacles and offers protection. The horizontal layout provides a wide, panoramic view, making it both a visual treasure and a meditative aid.
