The Beautiful Red Dakini Vajrayogini Thangka Print
Vajrayogini, a dakini, is the most well-known female meditational deity portrayed in a calm background with a waterfall and blooming lotus in the river. She is red-complexioned in this thangka print, wielding a vajra-handled curved flaying knife and sipping from a skull bowl. A garland of freshly chopped skulls hangs almost to her ankle from her left leg. Her right leg is bent and pushed up to her inner thigh in a dancer's pose. The blazing flame behind her portrays her wrathful nature, and her whole body is adorned with silver ornaments, which are her attributes.
Vajrayogini is a generic female yidam, and while she is occasionally depicted simply as a wrathful deity. She is shown in a different form in almost two-thirds of her sadhanas. Vajravarahi and Krodikali are some of her other manifestations. Vajrayogini is a Vajrayana Buddhist meditation deity and a Dakini.
