In this thangka, Guru Rinpoche is represented magnificently seated on a blooming lotus throne. He is in a meditative position, holding a skull cup (kapala), with the vase of longevity in his left hand and a vajra, which signifies unbreakable wisdom, in his right. The khatvanga trident rests on his shoulder, decorated with symbolic heads and a trishula on top, representing tantric attainment and the union of wisdom and method.
