Buddhist Hand-Painted White Tara (Sita Tara) Thangka | Healing and Protection Deity
This exquisite thangka painting beautifully depicts the White Tara (Sita Tara), a symbol of healing and compassion. It is hand-painted with genuine 24K gold, and acrylic color hues are used to bring life to the thangka, which is made on cotton canvas. The goddess of mercy and longevity is shown in this vibrant artwork sitting in the lotus, representing purity and divine birth. Her right hand stretches downward in the gesture of supreme generosity (varada mudra). In contrast, her left hand holds a utpala (blue lotus) flower and makes the gesture of refuge (vitarka mudra), symbolizing teaching, wisdom, and protection. Her seven sympathetic eyes, which are located on her face, hands, and feet, emanate awareness and omniscient care.
Behind her, a radiant aureole of golden light surrounds her form, featuring intricate patterns and symbolic motifs. It is framed by flowing water and mystical clouds, emphasizing the serene, celestial nature of the Thangka painting. She demonstrates her unending love and active concern for all sentient beings with her elegant stance.
At the bottom of this celestial composition are two renowned deities. On the right, Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Life, is in serene meditation on a lotus throne atop a moon disc. He holds a kalasha, a long-life vase containing immortality's nectar. On the left side, Namgyalma appears in her multi-armed form, embodying the forceful aspects of long life and karma purification. With her three serene faces and eight hands, she performs various mudras and holds sacred items, including a double vajra, a bow, an arrow, the Amitabha Buddha, a nectar vase, and a lasso. They form a divine trio of healing, protection, and long life.
